Children’s National announced the opening of the new Children’s Health Center at Anacostia, located at 2101 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., SE, in Washington, DC.
The new primary care facility provides well-child care and urgent care services for infants, children, and adolescents, as well as hearing and speech, mental health, social work, and breastfeeding support. It is larger, easily accessible, and includes state-of-the-art equipment to assist the more than 9,000 children served by Children’s National in Ward 8.
Patients also will now have expanded access to services, including:
Children’s IMPACT DC Asthma Clinic
Improving Diet, Energy and Activity for Life (IDEAL Clinic), a weight-loss and health education program
Healthy Families America, a home visiting program that helps build nurturing parent-child relationships by addressing health needs, family literacy, and other social services.
“We are committed to helping Washington DC’s children grow up healthy and strong,” said Kurt Newman, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Children’s National. “With more space, extended hours, and easy access to Metro and buses, our new Big Chair location will help expand our world-class care to even more kids and families in the DC community.”
The new location also offers the Healthy Generations Program, which provides medical care, family planning, and mental health support for young parents and their children. The program works to ensure that young mothers and fathers have the support they need to raise healthy and happy children with the coordinated support of a dedicated physician and a social worker who provides case management.
“We are very excited to offer families in Anacostia expanded access to care services in our new state-of-the art facility,” said Denice Cora-Bramble, MD, MBA, Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President of Ambulatory and Community Health Services at Children’s National. “From health education and nutritional counseling, to immunizations and urgent care, we look forward to continuing to help children grow up stronger.”
Beyond its traditional medical offerings, the new facility features 20 childhood-inspired, brightly colored exam rooms, as well as a mural painted by local, Southeast artist Roderick Turner. The acrylic painting is an imaginative scene of the Frederick Douglass House, which overlooks a group of children playing near the famed Anacostia Big Chair.
The new location combines and adds to services that were recently relocated from the Children’s National Health Center at 3029 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. and the Children’s National Health Center at Good Hope Road.
Offering comprehensive pediatric primary care provided by 14 physicians and a robust team of clinical and support staff, the new Children’s National Health Center Anacostia continues Children’s renovation and expansion initiative within Southeast, with plans for a clinical service expansion of THEARC underway for 2017.
Anacostia hours of operation: Monday –Thursday: 8:00 am – 8:00 pm, Friday and Saturday: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.
